lesley's studioDirectional Forces, 2012 – Artist Residency, Atoll, Germany

Memory, re-enactment and repair are key concerns in my current practice and were the focus of my Professional Doctorate in Fine Art, which I completed in 2014. I have exhibited nationally and internationally with solo exhibitions in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, London and Bristol. In 2012 I was one of seven leading Scottish artists, working in print, selected for Reflective Histories: Contemporary Art Interventions at Traquair and commissioned to make sculpture works, which were sited in the gardens of Traquair House. In 2013 I curated One Way or Another II at the Smart Gallery, Aberdeen. Other  exhibitions include Process & Possibilities, 2017, which I curated for Edinburgh Printmakers and Damaged Armour, a solo exhibition of sculpture works at Eastbury Manor House, London in 2018. I completed an Interdisciplinary Residency at Hospitalfield in 2018.

Recent research activity has included a touring group exhibition in the UK, New Zealand and Australia, in 2020 which was linked to an international print portfolio collaboration.

In 2021 my work was included in the exhibition , Mouth of a Shark in Cork, Ireland. The work exhibited was developed in response to workshops that I ran with refugees and migrants and was part of a Scotland/Europe programme supported by the British Council and Creative Scotland, enabling new partnerships with print studios across Europe. In 2021 I was awarded a partnership funded period of research that took place at The Glass Foundary in Stroud, which enabled me to experiment with new 3D work exploring the fluidity and alchemy of the medium.

This year, 2022, my work has been included in the RSA Annual Exhibition, Street Level Photoworks Open and the RA Summer Exhibition. Recent solo exhibitions include Traces of Home, which was shown as part of IMPACT 12 Multidisciplinary Printmaking Conference in Bristol in September. This was kindly supported by Creative Scotland’s Open Fund.
